In 2019, I expanded my comedic repertoire by taking two sketch intensive classes. Each class was structured so that our group of about 12 people wrote, rehearsed, and performed a full 60-minute set of sketch shorts a-la SNL – in 36 hours.
It was one of the hardest things I’ve done – the brainstorming, the mind-numbing memorization of lines, the flubbing of lines in the midst of performance, the improvising to get back to the beats, and getting enough sleep to boot. But it was all worth it – I’m so proud of myself and my other sketch-mates who participated in this adventure (not once, but twice).
A big thanks to Rise Comedy and Nick Armstrong for your space and instruction. What a great place to learn and a great instructor to have.
